Advice from a Grandmaster
What are the most common mistakes beginners make?
In my opinion, the most common mistakes beginners make are violating the principles of playing a chess game. For example: fighting for the center, developing minor pieces, not moving the same piece twice, not bringing the queen out at the beginning of the game, castling as quickly as possible, and of course, banal “blunders” when a player does not notice the capture of a particular piece. Therefore, during the game you need to be as attentive and focused as possible. You need to try to see all possible attacks of your opponent’s pieces on the board and be able to attack correctly with your own.
What advice could you give to chess players to reach the first category?
To reach the first level, and not only, a beginner chess player needs to do the following things:
- Continue group classes, preferably at least 3 times a week.
- Solve tactical problems or studies every day.
- Constantly participate in competitions with different time controls.
- Try to work more independently with chess literature, study the games of the world’s strongest chess players, both classical and modern.
- Chess tournaments (current and upcoming tournaments, results by year)
