Astanaopen Festival

This is a truly big event and a holiday for chess players. To compete on the chessboards, participants, masters and grandmasters from neighboring countries come to the capital.

The Children’s Chess Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan is usually divided into two tournaments: Open U10 (under 10 years old) and Open U14 (under 14 years old).

In addition, tournaments for adults “Astana Open A” (the 1st stage of the Cup of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and “Astana Open B” start.

The winners receive cash prizes.

All participants of the festival are provided with comfortable conditions for the game. Chess players have the opportunity to analyze the games played in a special room for analysis. Games of all tournaments are immediately entered into the database after their completion and posted on social networks, so that players can prepare for their opponents. The upper boards of the tournament “Open A” are broadcast on all world online chess platforms, which gives our tournament the right to officially be called international.

Over the past 5 years, more than 10 tournaments have been held with a prize fund totaling about 35 million tenge, as well as 5 international competitions.

The festival’s prize fund in 2019 was 8.5 million tenge, in 2021 – 2.65 million tenge.
